Didn't there used to be a chatting option? Did I see a notification that stated it was down or would be up again soon? Or am I just smoking crack?

Actually, there is a new chat up. Problem is, there is configuration for me to do, and it is complex. Once I have it down, then I will have the chat back up. When it is, people will see an icon (except the rare few who are still using the Acid theme, they will just see "chat"). As with any major change to the board, an announcement shall be made!

I am still working on the chatting... I have not met with flying colours of yet, however, still working.

So is the chat going to be an irc server, with the chat link going to a java client?

no, it will actually be html based, with a push on the client side to save server load
